Youth ages 8 through 17
(Elementary, Middle, and High schools)
In the public school system, OMAC serves as a mentoring program to motivate students to succeed in their education and enhance their life skills. OMAC also serves as a prevention and intervention program to address problem behaviors and barriers that may interfere with a student’s education whether directly or indirectly. The school counselor’s, resource center staff or principals, usually identify the students who may benefit from the OMAC program. Once a student is identified, they will participate once a week for an hour, in the classroom.
OMAC Afterschool Program
(Middle and High schools)
The OMAC afterschool program provides services for youth who are court ordered to participate and complete the program. For most of the youth, OMAC is an alternative to detention. The youth offenders are obligated to meet two hours twice a week, for a duration of 12 weeks. Although a majority of youth are court ordered, the program is also available for any youth who is interested in taking part in the program on a volunteer basis.
OMAC Incarceration Program
(Adults and Juveniles)
OMAC provides services for those who are incarcerated in correctional facilities. These participants are selected by the facilities re-entry coordinator. OMAC participants will meet once a week, for a 12-week group session. The OMAC program at the correctional facility allows both men and women to participate in the reentry program, and certificates are awarded upon successful completion of the program.
